| Members of the Port Jackson Greens are involved in a lot of community issues and actions, some of which are more 'local' than others! These are just some of the most important that we are working on together. |

CALLAN PARK
The community has achieved a significant milestone in the battle to save Callan Park by defeating the huge over development proposed by the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority and the University of Sydney. Unfortunately the battle continues.
The Greens along with the majority of the community are continuing to call for the re-establishment of a Psychiatric Hospital at Callan Park along with a full and consultative Master Plan for the entire site funded by the State Government.
It's disappointing that the State Labor government has shown no commitment to maintaining acute-care mental health facilities at Callan Park.
Nevertheless it's a great victory for the community who have fought to save Callan Park for over 10 years.

NO NEW IRON COVE BRIDGE
The State Government is still pressing ahead with the duplication of the Iron Cove Bridge despite strong community opposition to the project.
The Greens along with community groups such as Victoria Road Community Committee (VRCC) have supported this opposition and called for the State Government to consider a more sensible and fiscally responsible options.
Several reports have shown that the project benefits of the duplication of the Iron Cove Bridge and widening of Victoria Road (ie. reduced travel times, less congestion) will not be achieved. In fact the project will likely cause more traffic congestion and longer travel times especially for local residents on streets feeding Victoria Road.

Social Housing
The Greens believe that adequate, safe, secure and affordable housing is a basic requirement for living a decent life and a fundamental right for all people. We have been campaigning with social housing tenants on the unfair changes to tenancy law and policy introduced by Labor (for example, water bills based on ‘estimates’ rather than real water usage).

No M4 East
The Greens have revealed the true impacts of the proposed M4 East on the inner west - more traffic, more congestion, more air pollution and more traffic accidents. Meanwhile the government has gone into hiding, refusing to reveal their final plans - including the location of the third recommended pollution stack.
The Greens are continuing to fight to have plans for the M4 East disclosed. Residents need to know what the government really plans for this area. They also need to know how much it is going to cost, and what the impacts are.
Greens MP Lee Rhiannon is continuing to tackle the government over why they are committed to a project that just does not make sense - it does not stack up financially, environmentally or in terms of traffic management.

End South east Woodchipping
Our iconic forests in south east NSW, which are teeming with native birds and animals, are under threat from unsustainable woodchipping.
Carmel Tebbutt, local MP for Marrickville, is the NSW Mininster for Environment and Climate Change. She has the power to save the south east forests from destruction by closing the South East Fibre Exports (SEFE) woodchip mill at Eden.
Eden woodchip mill is owned by the Japanese company, Nippon Paper Group.
Over the last 40 years, the Eden woodchip mill has chipped over 30 million tonnes of native forest trees. The area logged to feed the woodchip mill has increased by 78% from 2002-03 to 2006-07. Over this time, yields per hectare have steadily declined and real prices have decreased. The NSW government has admitted that the native forest division of Forests NSW operates at a loss to taxpayers.

Nuclear Weapons, Waste and Power
The Liberals took us down the path of becoming the world’s nuclear quarry and waste dumping ground. Labor has abandoned even the pretence of opposing uranium mining. Meanwhile, nobody knows where to put the waste.
Despite what they say, both major parties have supported the uranium industry for years, ignoring the risks, the health impacts, the intractable problem of waste disposal, and the probability of our uranium ending up in nuclear weapons overseas.
