Albanese Condemns Inner West to More Aircraft Noise
19 June, 2009
Sylvia Hale the Greens MP has condemned the decision by Federal Transport Minister and Member for Grayndler, Anthony Albanese, to approve the Sydney Airport Master Plan that will increase aircraft traffic from 286,101 flights now to 427,000 by 2029.
“While in Opposition Mr Albanese claimed he was against the increasing aircraft noise pollution suffered by his constituents. Now he’s in power we can judge him by his actions rather than his words and his actions reveal that he is willing to sacrifice the welfare of hundreds of thousands of inner west residents to support the profits of the Macquarie Bank consortium that owns the airport,” said Ms Hale.

Forget the ALP, time for a Greens/unions unholy alliance
Guy Rundle, Crikey. 17 June, 2009
It was always a dead cert that Julia Gillard's light makeover of the Howard government's building industry laws would get through caucus, despite the opposition of Doug Cameron and some other antediluvian throwbacks who believe that a labour party should believe in equality before the law for everybody, workers included.
The laws, however much they’re modified, are disgraceful, going beyond the old-right wing desire to restore master-and-servant law to the workplace, all the way towards using the state to treat a special class of workers as second class citizens, swathed in a series of official powers depriving them of the right to remain silent, among others.

Inner West Harbour Consultation “a Sham”
12 June, 2009
The government’s announcement of a community consultation process for the inner west harbour has been greeted with scepticism by NSW Greens MP Sylvia Hale, Greens Mayor of Leichhardt, Jamie Parker and Greens City of Sydney Councillor, Chris Harris.
Sylvia Hale, Greens MP and Planning Spokesperson said:
“This consultation process is a sham. The government promised three years ago to consult with the community before proceeding with development in the inner west harbour, yet since then it has approved a marine refueling facility and a massive dry boat storage facility and has proposed a new cruise ship terminal, all without any genuine community consultation.”

The government’s announcement that it will introduce legislation to protect tenants from immediate eviction when a landlord defaults on a mortgage was welcomed today by Sylvia Hale, NSW Greens MP and Housing spokesperson, who last month gave notice that she would introduce a private members bill to address the same issue.
“The announcement that the government will legislate to protect tenants from eviction without notice when a bank repossesses a home is welcome but I will be urging the government to extend the proposed 4 weeks notice period,” Ms Hale said.
